Directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, Distant is the latest science fiction comedy film to hit the big screen.
Starring Anthony Ramos, Naomi Scott and Zachary Quinto, the movie follows asteroid miner Andy (Ramos) as his spaceship gets stuck and finds itself on an alien planet. Meanwhile, he connects with Naomi (Scott), a crew member trapped inside her pod, via radio, leading him on a journey to save her.
Where can you watch Distant? Will it be on HBO Max? What about Netflix? Here’s everything we know about the upcoming movie:
WHERE TO WATCH DISTANT:
As of now, the only way to watch Distant is to head out to a theater when it premieres on Friday, Jan. 27. Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or buy on digital platforms like Vudu, YouTube, Amazon and Apple or stream on Peacock. Read on for more information.
WHEN WILL DISTANT BE ON PEACOCK?
Since all Universal Pictures movies eventually make their way onto Peacock, we can estimate when you will be able to stream Distant from the comfort of your home.
Another Universal film, Violent Night, spent just over the 45-day average in theaters (49 days, to be exact) before making its way onto the streaming platform. If Distant follows the same trajectory, you should be able to stream it from your Peacock account by mid-March 2023.
WILL DISTANT BE ON HBO MAX?
No, Distant will not be on HBO Max because it’s not a Warner Bros. movie. While the company previously released its movies on HBO Max and in theaters on the same day, they have since stopped, and have implemented a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.
WILL DISTANT BE ON NETFLIX?
No, Distant will not be available on Netflix — at least not any time soon, since it will be heading straight to Peacock after its theatrical release. In the meantime, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available on the NBCUniversal-owned streaming platform.
